SVBC kicks-off El Camino Real 2030 Campaign — Achieve safe streets from Daly City to San Jose
Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition is excited to announce the launch of the El Camino Real 2030 campaign with a goal of achieving:
Complete streets infrastructure that consists of protected bike lanes and safe crossings on El Camino Real from Daly City to San Jose designed and constructed by 2030.
Making El Camino Real safe for those walking and biking has been a long-standing priority for SVBC. Advocacy in the last decade resulted in getting recommendations for bike lanes on El Camino Real in bicycle/pedestrian plans for different cities and agencies. The focus of the 2030 campaign is to turn all these exciting plans into green paint on the ground.
The El Camino Real 2030 campaign was kicked-off at an SVBC Biketivist forum held on September 20th. The recording will be uploaded here shortly.
At the forum, SVBC Local Team and community members talked about need for safe streets infrastructure on El Camino Real, collision data, analysis of primary crash factors, the decision makers and stakeholders to work with to make this vision a reality, where different cities are at with respect to their El Camino Real plans and proposals, and the different projects in the pipeline. The group also brainstormed on actions we need to take collectively to get El Camino Real improvements prioritized at different levels. Some of the thoughts are captured below.
There was a lot of energy in the room to drive and run this campaign! As a next step, SVBC will be creating a working group of passionate El Camino Real advocates to plan and start implementing the campaign. Join the El Camino Real local team if you’re interested!
