Volunteering is an easy way to make bicycling better and help save our world. With the help of our volunteers, we’ve been able to:
Teach thousands of students helmet and traffic safety skills at local elementary and middle schools through our Safe Routes to School programs.
Get funding to expand trails by providing trail use statistics in yearly trail counts.
Encourage bicyclists and motorists to share the road, by handing out cycling awareness information.
Regularly hand out bike maps and encouragement by attending local community fairs and events.
Decrease traffic and air pollution at events by providing valet bicycle parking services.
Increase bicycle awareness by increasing our membership.
Let’s face it – without you, SVBC loses its power and reach. So, how are you making bicycling a viable mode of transportation in Silicon Valley?
Volunteer, Become a Member
In addition, those who log 5 volunteer hours for SVBC in a calendar year earn a SVBC membership. Get local bike shop discounts, free entry to our annual parties, and contribute to our work for safer streets and tails while volunteering and having fun!

Local Teams
Keep us informed about your local advocacy issues, events, and volunteer opportunities, all while getting to know your bike advocate neighbors.
Bicycle Parking Attendant
We offer bicycle valet parking at a number of events, where our volunteers provide a watchful eye and safe assurance to many bicyclists. Join our team of bike parking pros to encourage travel by bike to our area's races, festivals, concerts, and sporting events!
Social Ride Leaders
We’re looking for a diverse group of enthusiastic folks to help support our social rides! This opportunity is open to motivated individuals, who are comfortable with urban bicycling and will provide enthusiastic friendly assistance before, during and after group rides.
Area Reporters
Our weekly e-bulletin is always looking for interesting bike events and related topics to cover, and staff can't possible travel to every BPAC and city council meeting in our two counties. Let us know if you're interested in preparing a weekly or monthly rundown of the bike issues in your town.
Photographers
Who doesn't need great pictures? These photo-eyed folks attend our events to take some awesome pictures. Let us know if you're interested today, and we'll tell you about the next event.
Graphic Designers
Between fliers, postcards, or stickers, we're always looking for great graphic designers that can help us emphasize how awesome bicycling is.
Bike Ambassadors (formerly Outreach Captains)
By representing Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition at various fairs and events and setting up tables in which residents can pick up bicycling maps and brochures, these volunteers help introduce Silicon Valley to the possibility of a more bicycle friendly community.
Data Entry
Do you love Excel? Salesforce? Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition needs volunteers to help us process memberships, donations and other supporter information onto our database system. Some training will be provided, but we are very interested in volunteers who have experience with and are comfortable using Salesforce and Excel.
Event Planning Teams
Love parties, events, music, big rides, or other activities that deliver loads of happiness to lots of people? We need creative and dedicated volunteers to own key parts of the following major events to help them succeed and attract more people to SVBC:
BTWD - Bike Month / Bike to Wherever Day / Bike to Work Day - in May each year, planning starts 6-9 months in advance
FunRide - ¡Silicon Valley Bikes! - in September/October, planning starts 6-9 months in advance
Member Party - in December, planning starts 2-4 months in advance

As a representation of Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, all volunteers must acknowledge and agree to our Volunteer and Intern Policy. For new volunteers and interns, please bring a printed copy of the last page with your information and signature to your first shift or orientation.
